Ok, after a lot of pomp and circumstance, crossover issues and buildup, this is what I actually consider to be the first issue of the Inferno crossover. Say what you will about this event, but the Uncanny X-Men issues presented here are just as good as anything that comes before or after them. In this issue we get a proper kickoff to the event, complete with the third confrontation between the X-Men and the Marauders, the first having taken place during Mutant Massacre (the consequences of which are still being felt), and the second having taken place just before Fall of the Mutants. The battle presented in this issue takes place in the very sewers the Marauders committed the Mutant Massacre in, and this issue actually feels like a proper sequel to Mutant Massacre, with the X-Men finally dealing some payback to their hated enemies. We also get to see Mr. Sinister, N’astirh, and the Goblin Queen finally make their moves to begin the Inferno of New York City. Ooo-wee. (Uncanny X-Men #240 – Jan 1989)
